"Baptism, the Eucharist, and the sacrament of Confirmation together constitute the 'sacraments of Christian initiation,' whose unity must be safeguarded. It must be explained to the faithful that the reception of the sacrament of Confirmation is necessary for the completion of baptismal grace. For 'by the sacrament of Confirmation, (the baptized) are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed." (CCC 1326)
Through the Sacrament of Confirmation, a person celebrates the Gifts of the Holy Spirit and a renewed commitment to his/her belief in the Catholic Church. We strongly believe that Confirmation is a journey into an ever-growing, ever-maturing faith, not the end of religious formation. The celebration of the Sacrament of Confirmation makes present the same grace that was showered upon the Apostles fifty days after the Resurrection of Christ. The reception of this sacrament is an indispensable moment in the life of all Catholics, and its celebration is of vital importance for the Church.
Among the various stages of our life, adolescence (widely know as "the teenage years") can be a time of extra confusion and conflict. During this time of life young people experience both physical and emotional changes and begin to learn the real nature of individual responsibility. Given the challenge this time of life presents for our young people, there is no more appropriate time for them to take another step forward in their relationship with God so that they can draw on God's love, strength, wisdom and courage. They are now at an age when they are invited to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
For the youth who attend Our Lady of Consolation Faith Formation, Our Lady of Consolation School, or are parishioners of Our Lady of Consolation, their preparation includes of a series of Youth/Parent(s) and Youth/Sponsor sessions exploring the elements of the Sacrament of Confirmation. These sessions begin in the winter of a youth's eighth grade year, January 2012. See the Confirmation Calendar in the forms section in the right column of this webpage.
Confirmation candidates are also strongly encouraged to register for middle school Faith Formation classes in August and regularly participate by joining us for URGENCY on Sunday nights or Edge on Wednesday nights.
